How to make an appointment

If you’re nervous, here’s some guidance on what to say:

• To start, say “Hi! My name is _____ and I would like to make an appointment to get birth control.”
• If you know which method you want, say “I want to get _____ . Is that available at this clinic?”
• If you don’t have insurance, say “I need free/low-cost birth control. What do I need to do?”
• If you need an appointment after school, say “I need an appointment at the end of the day because I can’t miss school.”
• If you are under 18, ask “How do you check for parental consent? Is there a form I can get before the appointment to get signed?”
• If they don’t mention what to bring with you, ask “Are there any documents I need to bring to the appointment? Do I need an ID?”
